Compiling and Installing uCR

See the Picture Elements web site at http://www.picturel.com or the ftp download directory at ftp://ftp.picturel.com/pub/source for the various packages mentioned below, including the current uCR source.

Before installing uCR, you must install the compilation tools. The tool suite for supported targets can be found in two parts packaged for RedHat Linux as source rpms and binary rpms for various CPU architectures. Download the binutils and gcc packages for your target and host type. Then install the packages with the RPM commands (i.e. for alpha host, i960 target):

# rpm -Uvh binutils-i960-ucr-2.8.1.alpha.rpm
# rpm -Uvh gcc-i960-ucr-2.7.2.1.alpha.rpm

The source rpm files (.src.rpm) for the packages are also available for download and include the original Free Software Foundation source as well as patches from various sources (including Cygnus Solutions, RedHat Software and Picture Elements, Inc.) If a binary rpm is not available for your system, the source can be expected to compile on any UNIX system.

If you wish to install the development environment for a system that is not RedHat Linux you can either install the rpm command on your system (it is ported to a variety of platforms by RedHat[*]) or contact Picture Elements for build instructions. The source for the tools is available for free from various sources, and the patches necessary to support uCR are available from Picture Elements.
